Building a Winning Team
It’s World Series time and two teams are slugging it out to be called champions – the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. My husband, a former baseball player himself, is unenthused about the match up.
“It’s like watching the All-Star game all over again,” he said. “Where’s the rookie sensation, or the journeyman who’s never won a World Series, or the veteran who’s barely hanging on to his career? That’s what makes an exciting World Series.”
Interestingly, these two teams feature two of the highest-paid rosters in baseball. The Yankees pay the most overall, with a payroll more than $208 million. The Phillies are 8th in the league, with a payroll of more than $111 million. And yes, each of these two teams featured five players in the All-Star game.
Regardless of your opinion on baseball, we all know the importance of a team. A team is made truly successful by the myriad of experiences and opinions that everyone brings to the table. You need your rookie sensation just as much as you need your veteran. That’s the beauty of a team. Different experiences and opinions come together, clash and compromise, en route to that next big idea.
At Moore Consulting Group, we feature some of the most creative and talented professionals in the business. But, we come from different industry areas and have varying years of experience. This makes for colorful brainstorming sessions, fierce team building competitions and great ideas that we leverage for our clients. We simply couldn’t offer such a plethora of services if our team were any less diverse.
So, the next time you have a meeting with your own team, remember to take a look around and appreciate the differences. Because you don’t need $200 million dollars to build a team that can win.
